आत्मकथा भाग-6

इस भरी दुनिया में कोई भी हमारा न हुआ ...गैर तो गैर थे अपनों का सहारा न  हुआ... रफी साहब का यह गीत मैं मन ही मन गुनगुना रहा था। मैं दुखी और काफी भयभीत  था. मुझे  डर  था कि कहीं लोग मेरा अस्तित्व ही न मिटा डाले। मेरे आस-पास के भोले-भाले लोग नासमझ तो थे ही कुछ राजनीतिक दलों ने अपना राजनीतिक रोटी सेकने का भी प्रयास किया। लेकिन मैंने हिम्मत नहीं हारा। मैंने फैसला कर लिया कि अपने वजूद को बचाने के लिए मैं अंतिम क्षण तक संघर्ष करूंगा। इस बीच 2000 में झारखंड राज्य का गठन हो गया। और लोगों की तरह मुझे भी खुशी हुई कि अब मेरे दिन बहूरेंगे। लेकिन मुझे हैरानी हो रही थी की स्थिति में कोई बदलाव नहीं हो रहा था। सब कुछ यथावत चल रहा था ।हां  इस बीच चतरा के तत्कालीन सांसद धीरेंद्र अग्रवाल ने कुछ ठोस कदम उठाया। उन्होंने जब पार्क का भ्रमण किया और सड़कों के किनारे सागवान के कटे पेड़ देखें तो वे काफी नाराज हो गए। और उन्होंने पार्क की दुर्दशा का जिम्मेवार ठहराते हुए तत्कालीन पीटीआर  के क्षेत्र निदेशक व रेंजर के खिलाफ मामला दर्ज करा दिया। मुझे इस बात की खुशी हुई कि चलो अब कुछ अच्छा होगा। लेकिन बात आई ,गई और खत्म हो गई। मुझे अपने हाल पर ही छोड़ दिया गया। समय बीतता गया ।नक्सलियों का खौफ बना रहा। शिकारियों का आतंक बना रहा। आसपास में समय-समय पर होने वाली  नक्सली घटनाओं को मीडिया के द्वारा लगातार प्रचारित किया जाता रहा। कुछ मीडिया कर्मियों के द्वारा तो यह भी बता दिया गया कि नक्सलियों के कारण बेतला असुरक्षित  है। जबकि यह भी कटु सत्य है कि नक्सलियों के द्वारा बेतला पार्क क्षेत्र में एक भी अप्रिय घटना को अंजाम नहीं दिया गया था। सरकार के द्वारा फसल  नुकसान के लिए मुआवजे के प्रक्रिया को सरल बनाया गया। हाथी के द्वारा मारे जाने या घायल किए जाने  पर मुआवजे की राशि बढ़ाई गई। लेकिन मुझे अफसोस इस बात को लेकर था कि अब भी मेरे गांव के लोग मुझे अपना नहीं मान रहे थे ।उनके लिए मैं बेगाना ही था।  मेरे हौसले को बढ़ाते थे मेरे दूरदराज से आने वाले सैलानी ।इतना होने के बावजूद भी सैलानियों का आने का सिलसिला नहीं थमा। लोग पार्क का भ्रमण करते थे ।मेरे परिसर में बने होटल में खाना खाते थे। हाथी की सवारी करते थे। यह देख कर मुझे आत्म संतोष होता था।

None of this happened to us in this stuffy world ... non-non-non-loved ones were not supported ... I was humming this song of Rafi Sahab.  I was sad and very scared.  I was afraid that people might destroy my existence.  The innocent people around me were unintelligent and some political parties also tried to bake their political bread.  But I did not give up.  I decided that I would struggle till the last moment to save my existence.  Meanwhile, the state of Jharkhand was formed in 2000.  And like people, I too am happy that now my days will be deafening.  But I was surprised that there was no change in the situation.  Everything was going on as expected. Meanwhile, Chatra's then MP Dhirendra Agarwal took some concrete steps.  When he visited the park and saw teak cut trees on the side of the road, he became very angry.  And he blamed the plight of the park and filed a case against the then PTR's area director and ranger.  I'm glad that let's do something good now.  But the thing came, went and ended.  I was left on my own.  Time passed. The fear of Naxalites remained.  The terror of the hunters remained.  Periodic Naxalite incidents in the vicinity were continuously promoted by the media.  It was also told by some media personnel that Betla is vulnerable due to Naxalites.  While it is also a harsh truth that not one untoward incident was carried out in the Betla Park area by the Naxalites.  The process of compensation for crop loss was simplified by the government.  The compensation amount was increased when the elephant was killed or injured.  But I regret that even now the people of my village were not considering me as their own. I had to beg for them.  My spirits used to boost my spirits. Despite this, tourists did not stop the process of coming.  People used to visit the park. I used to eat in the hotel in my premises.  Used to ride elephants.  I used to feel satisfied after seeing this.
