 आत्म कथा -भाग 11 

अनारकली व जूही मेरे साथ करीब 30 वर्षों तक रहे। इस बीच अनारकली सबकी चहेती बन गयी।सैलानियों के अलावाआसपास के ग्रामीणों से भी अनारकली का काफी लगाव था।वन्य प्राणी सप्ताह के समय जब वन विभाग के द्वारा जुलूस निकाला जाता था तो उसमें अनारकली और जूही को जरूर सजा कर निकाला जाता था। सैकड़ों बच्चे उसके पीछे पीछे काफी दूर तक चले जाते थे।अनारकली  सूंड उठाकर लोगों का अभिवादन करती थी।इतना ही नहीं शादी विवाह में भी अक्सर अनारकली व जूही को बुलाया जाता था।समय के साथ-साथ अवस्था ढल जाने के कारण अनारकली बीमार रहने लगी।मुझे याद है बीमार अवस्था में भी जब कोई वीआईपी बेतला पहुंच जाता था तो उससे सवारी कराई जाती थी।इतना ही नहीं जब कोई सैलानी बेतला आते थे और जंगल में कुछ दिखाई नहीं देता था तो अनारकली  को देखकर ही संतोष कर लिया करते थे।और एक दिन ऐसा हुआ की अनारकली गंभीर रूप से बीमार पड़ गई। रांची से डॉ बुलाए गए।काफी इलाज कराया गया

लेकिन उसे बचाया नहीं जा सका।अनारकली ने इस दुनिया को अलविदा कह दिया।जैसे ही अनारकली की मौत की खबर आस-पास के गांव में फैली हजारों लोग घरों से निकलकर उसके अंतिम दर्शन के लिए उमड़ पड़े। अनारकली  के प्रति लोगों का जो प्रेम था उस दिन ही दिखाई दिया।लेकिन आगे की जो कथा आप सुनेंगे आप के कलेजा फट जाएंगे। क्योंकि उस दिन वन विभाग की मैं करतूत को देखकर काफी रोया था ।अनारकली के मौत के बाद उसे दफनाने की प्रक्रिया शुरू की गई। दफनाने वाले जगह तक ले जाने के लिए जेसीबी लाया गया। 50 फीट से अधिक दूरी तक अनारकली के शव को जेसीबी से घसीटा गया। उसका शरीर लहूलुहान हो गया ।क्षत-विक्षत शव को देखकर कुछ लोगों ने इसका विरोध भी किया ।लेकिन विभागीय पदाधिकारियों के द्वारा यह कहा गया कि इतने बड़े जीव को आखिर कैसे दफनाया जा सकता है। जिस जगह पर अनारकली की मौत हुई थी वहां भी दफनाया जा सकता था। लेकिन जेसीबी से घसीटा जाना मुझे काफी बुरा लगा। अनारकली ने लोगों के दिलों में जो जगह बना रखा था ।जिस सम्मान कि वह हकदार थी वह उसे अंतिम संस्कार में नहीं दिया गया। विभागीय पदाधिकारी व कर्मी किसी तरह से इस झंझट से छुटकारा पाना चाहते थे।भले ही बेतला की शान बढ़ाने में अनारकली अपने उम्र के 30 से अधिक वर्ष गुजार दिए थे। लेकिन उसका अंतिम संस्कार ...ओह।

Anarkali and Juhi stayed with me for about 30 years.  In the meantime, Anarkali became a favorite of all. Apart from the tourists, Anarkali also had a lot of affection with the nearby villagers. When the procession was taken out by the Forest Department during the week of animal life, Anarkali and Juhi were definitely punished in it.  Hundreds of children followed him far enough away. Anarkali used to greet people by raising the trunk. Not only this, Anarkali and Juhi were also often called in marriage. Anarkali remained ill due to the condition of time.  I remember. When a VIP reached Betla, even in a sick state, he was given a ride. Not only that, when a tourist came to Betla and nothing was seen in the forest, he used to see Anarkali and was satisfied.  And one day it happened that Anarkali fell seriously ill.  Dr. Ranchi was called. He was given adequate treatment.

 But she could not be saved. Anarkali said goodbye to this world. As the news of Anarkali's death spread in the nearby village thousands of people rushed out of their homes to pay their last darshan.  The love that people had for Anarkali appeared only on that day, but the story you hear next will ruin your heart.  Because I cried a lot on seeing the handiwork of the forest department that day. After the death of Anarkali, the process of burial was started.  JCB was brought to the place of burial.  The body of Anarkali was dragged from JCB for a distance of more than 50 feet.  His body was bled. On seeing the dead body, some people even opposed it. But it was said by the departmental officials how such a large creature could be buried.  The place where Anarkali died could also be buried.  But I felt bad about being dragged by JCB.  The place that Anarkali kept in the hearts of the people. The respect that she deserved was not given to her at the funeral.  The departmental officials and workers wanted to get rid of this mess in some way. Anarkali had already spent more than 30 years of her age to enhance the glory of Betla.  But his funeral… oh.

हथिनी अनारकली और जूही की कई रोचक यादें मेरे साथजुड़ी हुई है।अलग-अलग सैलानी और अलग अलग यादें।जाड़े के समय मेरे आंगन में काफी भीड़भाड़ रहती थी ,तो कई सैलानी हाथी की सवारी करने के लिए कई दिनों तक विश्रामागार में रुक जाते थे।हाथी की सवारी करने का अवसर मिलने पर भरपूर एंजॉय करते थे।फोटोग्राफी करने वाले लोग तो हाथी की सवारी को सबसे पहली पसंद मानते थे।क्योंकि आसानी से जंगली जानवर को करीब से फोटो लिया जा सकता था।आप सोच रहे होंगे कि जब जंगल में हाथी की सवारी के द्वारा सैलानी जाते थे तो बाघ ,हाथी या कोई अन्य हिंसक जानवर  उन पर हमला नहीं करते थे? आपका प्रश्न बिल्कुल सही है?लेकिन आपको मैं आश्वस्त कर दूं कि ऐसा कभी नहीं हुआ कि कोई सैलानी बेतला पार्क का भ्रमण कर रहा हो और उस पर जंगली जानवर हमला कर दिया हो।हां यह बात अलग है कि कुछ डरपोक टाइप के पर्यटक की पैंट गीली हो जाती थी।और जो सैलानी साहसी होते थे वे आराम से देखते और फोटो खींचते थे।हाथी की सवारी कर रहे सैलानियों के ऊपर जंगली जानवरों के हमला नहीं करने का कारण यह था कि जंगली जानवर भी हाथी के पीठ पर इंसान को सवार होता देख डर जाते थे ।जैसे ही उनकी नजर सैलानियों से मिलती थी वह झाड़ियों में जाकर छुप जाते थे।बड़ा ही रोमांचकारी होता था जंगल की यात्रा।एकदम हॉरर फिल्मों की तरह।चारों तरफ लंगूर की हूप -हूप के अलावा अन्य जंगली जानवरों की आवाजो व घने जंगलों के बीच अपने परिजनों के साथ हाथी की सवारी रोंगटे खड़े कर देने वाले पल होते थे।आज का रॉबिनहुड सहित कई फिल्मों में शूटिंग में अनारकली की मदद ली गई।लेकिन मुझे काफी दुख भी होता था इनकी दशा को देखकर।क्योंकि इनके रखरखाव पर विशेष ध्यान नहीं दिया जाता था। जो भी सैलानी हाथी की सवारी करते थे,वह कुछ पैसे विभाग को दिया करते थे।यानी हाथी कमाई भी करते थे।लेकिन बदले में हाथी को खाने के लिए थोड़ी सी खिचड़ी वगैरह दिया जाता था।अपने बड़े पेट को भरने के लिए उन्हें मशक्कत करनी पड़ती थी।हाथी की सवारी करने से जब फुर्सत मिल जाती थी तब अनारकली व जूही को छह से 10 किलोमीटर दूर तक ले जाया जाता था।वहां बरगद के टहनी वगैरह खा कर उन दोनों को अपना पेट भरना होता था बाद में दूसरे दिन के लिए भोजन पीठ पर लाद कर रास्ते में पानी पीते हुए वापस लौटना पड़ता था..

I have many interesting memories of Hathini Anarkali and Juhi. Different tourists and different memories. My courtyard was very crowded during the winter, so many tourists stayed in the restroom for several days to ride the elephant.  They used to enjoy a lot when they had the opportunity to ride the elephant. Photographers considered elephant riding as the first choice. Because of the ease with which the wild animal could be photographed up close.  I used to go on an elephant ride by elephants, so tigers, elephants or any other predatory animals did not attack them?  Your question is absolutely correct. But let me assure you that it has never happened that a tourist is visiting Betla Park and has been attacked by a wild animal. It is different that the pants of some sneaky type tourist  It used to get wet. And the tourists who used to be adventurous used to look at and take photos comfortably. The reason for the wild animals not attacking the elephant riding birds was that the wild animals would also ride the human on the back of the elephant.  They used to get scared. As soon as they got their eyes from the tourists, they used to hide in the bushes. It was a thrilling trip to the jungle. Like the horror films at once.  And there were moments that made the elephant ride creep along with his family amidst the thick forests. Anarkali's help was taken in shooting in many films including Robinhood of today. But I was also very sad to see his condition.  Maintenance was not given special attention.  The tourists who rode the elephant used to give some money to the department. The elephant also earned money, but in return, the elephant was given a little khichdi to eat.  Anarkali and Juhi were taken from six to 10 kilometers away when they got free time from riding the hand. They both had to fill their stomach after eating the banyan twig etc. later on the second day.  Had to return food after drinking water on the way ..
